What sales ads are really saying?

Since CW is lame and on rest, I decided to do some online shopping for ponies. Yes, I am pony shopping theoretically for my own amusement. I'm not really in the market for a horse at all, but I like to window shop and day dream. I also like to read through and try to think what the owners are REALLY saying. It's an amusing way to make the first few hours of my day go by.

My first ad is a CL special.

"Maverick" is our beautiful bay colt, he was imprinted at birth and Has had extensive ground work and desensitization training. He can back, turn on his front/hind in, trot on lead, stop with leader, ect. He is a barn favorite and has personality to boot. His dam is a buckskin AQHA reining horse "sheza black holly", her line is known for being very cowy, athletic, and great tempered. His sire is a sorrel quarter horse that we are currently working on getting registered, he tracked cows out in the pasture by himself and had a gentle temperament that his line is known for. Mav is a very balanced colt with straight strong legs, broad chest, Big hip and butt, and eye catching color. He is a prospect for reining, cow events, speed events, eventing, ect. He is an all around colt that shows great potential for the show ring. He would make a great 4h project! Mare is on sight for viewing and we have pictures of sire.

What it really says:

Our stallion jumped the fence and got to one of our mares. He can't be registered, but we will call him a Quarter Horse for now. He has been spoiled since he hit the ground, and he constantly thinks you have something for him. May or may not bite. He is very, very bay and will be bay for a long time. We don't have time for him and kind of don't want a spoiled horse on our hands, but he would be a great project for your kids! Baby horses are cute right?

Stunning Hunter/Jumper prospect. 7 year old, Thb. gelding, 17h, currently jumping 2'9"-3ft with ease. He has beautiful form over fences so he's currently being trained for the hunters but has the scope & power to go jumper. Tons of chrome (blaze with 3 white socks) will get you noticed in the ring! No health issues, up to date on everything & has always had the best of care. Jockey Club papers in hand. Asking 10k Please feel free to call!! Video's available upon request.

What it really says:

Snorty, Spooky, Jumper Prospect. He jumps huge over everything, because he thinks it might eat him. CAN NOT TOUCH WHAT MIGHT EAT ME! He is really pretty. He especially looks pretty when he is going up to a spooky fence. May or may not snort a lot. You might think he is an Arab, but I have papers to prove he is not.

Okay, I kind of love this horse... If I had 10k I would buy it.

Georgias Musiccat, 2006 Thoroughbred Mare 15.1-15.2hh
By Assault Cat X Georgias Music x Roxbury Park
Granddaughter of Storm Cat
**current wound in the right side of her neck. Just needs a little time to finish healing. hence the reason for the price drop.***
Georgia is an energy packed mare that needs a job. When ridden regularly (3x a week) she makes a nice interim.+ horse and lesson horse. When not ridden and left to sit she can become a handful under saddle and have the drive to go! She would best be suited as a barrel horse though with the right rider and trainer a nice EVENTING mount. She has only trotted the pattern 3-4 times a few months ago and has not been finished in any one direction. Im offering her for sale to an experienced rider ( must be able to walk/trot/ canter and be a confident rider). She would also make a nice boodmare for someones herd! She is currently listed at at $1000.00 Buy her and train her to turn and burn a barrel pattern or to fly through the cross country course!

What it really says:

This horse likes to run. Jesus she loves to go fast. We usually can't stop her, so we keep running. We have to run her a lot to make her rideable. DON'T LET HER SIT IF YOU VALUE BREAKS. She doesn't usually have breaks. I think she would be great as a barrel horse or eventer, because all the do is run and she loves that. She even injured herself running, so we are dropping her price. Come if you dare and bring a HUGE bit!

Have a sense of humor people. :)

I'm So Bad

I don't mean I am so bad in the sexy kind of way. I also don't mean I am so bad in the "I went to jail one time" type of way. I'm so bad about keeping this blog up and running. I get distracted by shiny things, COTH, and a computer game called Clusterz. Don't play it! I am warning you, because it will eat your soul and make you hate things. <-- HA! Perfect example of how easily distracted I get.

I would like to give you a little update in what has been going on since my last blog post (in January). I turned 22 years old. It's really not a big accomplishment, and I didn't do anything for my birthday. I just drank a big margarita, ate Mexican food (my favorite kind of food), and rode CW. I transferred schools and then gave up on the transfer and started fresh at Penn Foster to get my Veterinary Technician Degree. I decided that make a ton of money probably wasn't going to happen, and I should do something that makes me happy. I plan on taking the Equine Technician classes through AAEP after my two year degree, and then getting a certification in Equine Massage Therapy.

CW got his annual checkup and got a clean bill of health. I also got told that he looks great, and that his weight is manageable now! I get to add 25-30lbs onto him, and he will be the "perfect" weight. He is sound and starting to work pretty beautifully on the flat, after much frustration on my part. Okay, he was probably also frustrated with me at times, too!

We are starting to do lateral work. I decided we both over think everything and it makes our brains go mush, and then it makes our bodies do stupid things. It's hard being a Rider On Their Own (ROTR, shout out to the COTH clique). I don't have anyone to yell at me and tell me to stop sticking me elbow out like a chicken. I also don't have anyone to tell me that I am giving my poor horse all the wrong queues, but we somehow manage to work it out and produce good stuff, eventually.

I promise I will start keeping this up. I will also start documenting my rides a lot better!

I've learned a lesson!

I decided to put on my big girl hat and starting thinking responsible. I decided that if I ever want to move out and be on my own, that I need to know exactly how much I spend on things. I decided to try my experiment first with horses. Oh my lanta, what a mistake that was. I never knew how quickly my bills for CW could rack up in one month, and I am only one month into this experiment. I still have a year vet visit, shoes, and a bunch of other stuff coming up.

How am I ever going to be able to afford all of this?

I will say I did splurge a little bit this month. I bought some awesome Gary Mundy leathers (picture to come). It wasn't an immediate need, but it was needed after I was adjusting my stirrup the other day and notice how little stitching was actually keeping my leathers together.

Then I was browsing the WWW before coming across a pair of really cool stirrups. I already have a pair of Sprengers that I love, but my leg has become pretty unsteady while using them. These stirrups though were composite irons and colorful. Yes, colorful. So again, I didn't need them, but then again I also didn't want my leg to get worse. So I could fix the problem now, right?

I mean seriously, aren't they awesome?

I also switched CW's bit after reading a lot of COTH forum and doing a lot of debating. We have been working a lot on getting off his forehand, but I just needed a little bit more elevation (and breaks). So I switched him from his snaffle to a 2-Ring Happy Mouth Elevator Bit. We are in the stage of our training right now that two reins aren't a great idea, so I needed bit converters. Now before you all throw tantrums, please note that I also watched a ton of GM clinic and noticed many of those horses going in these bits (or variations of) with converters. If you don't believe me go have a look for yourself. I did not have converters (so I borrowed some old stiff ones), but I found some online that were barely used and like 10 bucks. So naturally you can't pass up a deal like that. I think it is totally worth it (the two ring bit and the boo-his looks people give me). If CW is happy then momma is happy.

Those winter woolies are baaaaad.

My last purchase this month was totally not a need but a 100% want and splurge. I would like to pat myself on the back though for splurging when these breeches were 20% off (plus an extra 5% off due to AQHA membership). Smartpak had a flash sale on Piper Breeches. Oh what a glorious flash sale it was! So, of course, I had to splurge and buy a pair in Merlot. I am so excited for them to come in, because after all who doesn't need more colorful breeches?

Anyways, I learned a lesson that it is very hard to tack expenses. What did I learn from the lesson? That I should ignore the excel form and just keep on trucking. What am I actually going to do? Well, there are no more breeches or nice things in my future. Next month is vet bill month. -insert crying face here-

The struggle is real my friend.

What is "The Struggle"?

So, you may be wondering why I name my equestrian blog "The Struggle". I am a college student. I will be starting full time in the Summer after nearly three and a half years of part-time (and some breaks) classes. I still change my major on about a yearly base in the hopes of finding something to study that I am passionate for, but that will also help support my equestrian habits. I think I have finally settled on an Environmental Science major that way I can try my head at a few different things before finally choosing what I want to do. I don't feel bad though, being so indecisive. I am young and I don't want to be stuck paying thousands for something I will never use or stuck doing a job I loathe.

While I am a full time student (or soon to be), I also work full time at a Veterinary Clinic as front desk, puppy snuggler, kitten cooer, and sometimes assistant when no one has free hands. If only cuddling puppies for the rest of your life and making great money while doing it was a career (and it didn't involve a degree). HA! Keep dreaming sweets. I work the later shift so I will be able to go to school in the mornings, and that way I can also ride my sweet pony. That leads me to reason #3 why this blog is appropriately named "The Struggle". There is one big thing that enjoys eating all my extra money.

Bon’s Midnight Dancer is his name or Carl Wayne (CW mainly). You can read how he achieved that wonderful name on his page. I like to put his registered name out there so you can see that the poor guy was never blessed with a great name in his life (one of his past names being T-Bone). He is a registered AQHA gelding off a ranch in Montana. No great lineage there, just good ole' cow horse lines. You would think he would make an amazing cow horse, right? WRONG. He flunked. He was one of those horses that was going to war, and then decided he just wanted to dance (HAHA, COLBERT REFERENCE). He didn't want to Dance either though. He enjoys the jumping of colored sticks.

So there you have it. I am a 21 (almost 22) year old college student who is only enough credits to be a sophomore, because she has no idea what she wants to do in life, and I work full time while supporting myself and a money grubbing QH. Oh, did I mention I also am looking for a second job while trying to maintain a social life and a wonderful supportive boyfriend? I know there are many that have done it before me, but I am sure they felt to same way... The Struggle is real my friends, very, very real.
